Branding strategy involves knowing everything I can about a product, business or organization. This includes it's history, it's mission, it's vision as well as the audiences it serves. Formulating a brand strategy that takes all these things into account while enhancing the position of the company in the eyes of stakeholders is a major undertaking even for small organizations.
This is all about establishing and driving the creative process along with guiding a team of creative writers, designers and producers to produce assets and campaigns that meet strategic business objectives.
As a Creative Director and partner in a marketing firm for many years, much of my work has involved managing the process of creative development including establishing budgets and timelines while overseeing project teams and outside vendors.
At the heart of every successful campaign is a solid creative strategy. This is a detailed plan that outlines how the campaign and tactics are going to achieve the business goals and objectives.
One aspect of directing creative involves video direction. Whether the videos are being produced for single-use or across multiple assets, company-wide, on location or in studio, providing clear and concise direction is critical.
Branding is not just a logo or identity but covers all aspects of visual communications and can include audio. I've created and managed brands for Fortune 500s and Mom-and-Pops knowing how to get the most out of a budget while working collaboratively with all levels of an organization - before, during and post launch.
This includes anything involving research, writing, gathering, organizing, and editing information for publication. While I don't consider myself a formal copywriter, I have experience creating content across all forms of media.
Again, while I don't consider myself a copywriter, I am a creative/art director with experience writing and developing content across all forms of media. This includes scriptwriting for video.
Part of my role in managing creative, involves managing production with outside vendors such as photography and video production studios, printers, sign manufacturers and freelancers.
Creating content for social media has its own challenges given the variety of platforms, audiences and character count limitations. Developing content that stands apart from competing messages while staying on-brand is critical.
Producing social media posts that reinforce your brand, while knowing how to quickly produce optimized graphics and video across multiple platforms is key.
Once creative direction is provided or established, it takes a skilled art director to work with the right type of videographer and editor to produce videos for projects or campaigns. Having a clear understanding of timing and logistics is also critical in order for a shoot to run smoothly.
